Walking the Talk: Blog Question #2

An ecological footprint is a calculation that estimates the size of the earth's land and water that is required to supply the resources an individual demands. According to this website, the kind of footprint that I leave on the planet is, "if everyone on the planet lived my lifestyle, we would need: 5.05 Earths." I am quite dumbfounded that we would need that many earths, when we only have one. This site has brought to my realization that I really do need to cut back on my consumption of energy that contributes to my ecological footprint. During the process of doing the survey of finding out my ecological foot's size, it has educated me on what I could do to conserve this energy. Reason being, that due to the questions that are being asked, it provides some kind of information about the questions that are being asked in each section. What I feel I can do to lessen my impact are to follow the questions that are being asked and determined the best options and follow through in a way that would help the environment. I feel that this interactive website in a way is bringing about change for our future, atleast for those who really take the results seriously. Therefore, for those who really take their results seriously and feel that they could improve on decreasing their footprint, they may have contributed little by little which makes some kind of difference in leading others to do the same. If one person chooses to make a difference, put together we can all contribute to improving our environment.
